- Are my scholarships and grants taxable income on my tax return?
- Generally, scholarships and grants are taxable only when the total
scholarship and grant aid for a calendar year exceeds tuition, books
and supplies for the same period. However, a scholarship or grant
specifically earmarked for living expenses by the donor is always
taxable. For complete information, consult IRS
Publication 970 - Tax Benefits for Education.
